A note from the Chairman.

Congratulations, you’ve made your first step to what I hope will be a very friendly, fun filled experience. I started the club in 2018, at a time when there appeared to be no formal running club and I was aware of lots of individuals running around East Grinstead. The club was formed with the ethos that it would be a supportive and friendly running club for everyone. I don’t feel the need constantly talk of speed, distance and PB’s that some people can find intimidating and off putting. Instead, I wanted to foster a culture where people come to enjoy their running, work at their own pace, have a good time, see the different routes available around our great town, and go away laughing and wanting more.

That’s not to say that we don’t enter races and encourage people to do their best in them. If someone is working towards a specific goal, then the club will be more than happy to support them every step of the way by providing training plans, routes, injury advice and general tips to help them on their way. As a club, we do enter races either as individuals or as a group and travel together to have a great day out. The Great South Run in October is just one example.

In the coming months, I hope to expand our coaching staff and bring on board some individuals to help lead the club. Along with the members, they will form the heart and soul of the club and so they come from different walks of life and have different sets of abilities and skills. This places them in a perfect position to help everyone at the club. So, if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to ask any of the Run Leaders, or me as Coach, during one of our training sessions.

All club information can be found on our website and runs are posted on the East Grinstead Runners Facebook Page each week. If you can’t make a run and would still like company, then once you’ve joined our private Facebook Group, please feel free to post that you are wanting to go for a run and others may join you.

If you have any general questions, please don’t not hesitate to contact the relevant members of the committee or contact me direct on:

Martin Langton - Chair and Head Coach  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Martin, has always been a runner and enjoys running with his dog, Billy or pushing his daughter in a running buggy. Having completed Marathons, Ultra marathons and other endurance events, he likes to help, encourage and motivate others to achieve more. He loves seeing the progression people make and is inspired by club members who achieve more than they thought they could. He is always available at training sessions to give advice and help, if you can’t find him…..he’s the one with the loud voice!

Caz Gould - Club Secretary and Vice Chair This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Caz started running in 2016 to be a better role model for her daughter. She used to drink and smoke a lot and didn’t do any exercise. Caz has lost 3.5 stone now and ran her second marathon this year. Caz joined the club to find people to run with. She loves trail running now and encourage everyone she meets to run!

Ange Stark - Treasurer This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Ange has always been into some form of exercise but  took up running many years ago to give up smoking, She is pleased to say it has worked. :-) Ange enjoys the freedom and sense of achievement she gets from running, She will moan, a lot, and struggle to get up those hills, but at the end of a run you will always hear her say, really enjoyed that!

Matt Inge - Membership   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Matt started running in 2018 to get fit after a health scare. He was soon looking for others to run with, which is when Matt saw Martin setting up this group. Since joining he has discovered a love for trail running and enjoys seeing how much other runners improve.  Matt tries and run 3 or 4 times a week.

Cat McHugh - Welfare Officer  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Turning up to East Grinstead Runners first session was the best decision. Cat has moaned, Cat has fallen aka Bambi but is still going. As much as she disliked hills and grass they have now grown a friendship. When your head is telling you “I can’t do it” tell yourself “I can do it”
